Probiotics 101: strains, CFU, and what matters
A grounded primer on choosing a daily probiotic.
Probiotics are not interchangeable. Effects are strain-specific, not species-specific.
CFU (colony-forming units) is a useful but incomplete metric. 10–50 billion is a typical daily dose for general support.
Look for shelf-stable formulations with named strains, and consider rotating products every few months for diversity.
